The wacky life of a prison teacher. Some days we'll cover the antics of GED students. Some days I will rant against my boss or fellow teachers. If you are lucky someone will try to escape and you will get my blow by blow account. Other days you will hear about some sex offender antics. And yet, some days will have nothing to do with prison, so beware. You think I'm kidding about Tuesdays don't you...
I stumbled upon this blog and find it extremely fascinating. (especially because I am considering becoming a prison teacher myself) May I ask what you went to college for? What degree do you have? And what do you advise for those looking into the field? Thank you!
Jacqueline, I have a BA in English Teaching. Since working at the prison I have also gotten a MS in Ed Admin. All of the prison systems I have looked into require you to have a current teaching license from the state you are going to work in.
VA allows substitute teachers and instructional assistants with almost any degree to work in the state prisons.
